Stone Monastery
Stone Monastery was founded in 1194 by Cistercian monks in the ancient castle and Old Stone by the river Piedra. It is in this river to be the fame and the attractions of the monastery. While in the monastery, the river forms numerous waterfalls, streams of water, caves and small lakes.
The highest waterfall is called Cola de Caballo, which exceeds 50 m. There is a marked path that runs all the attractions of the park along about 5 km.
These waterfalls are formed by the dissolution of limestone and subsequent precipitation of the same which occurs by reducing the flow, which is dissolved limestone in layers deposited by running water, forming many waterfalls.
It is a karst phenomenon caused by slight fluctuations in the flow of the river itself. The park also has several caves, discovered by the founder of the park. There is also the so-called Mirror Lake.
Recently, we can witness in the vicinity of the park shows with birds, among which are owls, eagles, vultures, owls and Caracas.
The Monasterio de Piedra is located 105 km.
