The Tower of Pisa – Lean and Curves
Tower of Pisa is one of the seven wonders of the world which was built in 1178. Construction aside, but are still strong, despite being more than 8 centuries, kept the unusual conditions in the belfry at the top is special.
If someone asks, “Is the tower, whose slope is greater every year might fall?” The answer is “Yes”. Leaning Tower had collapsed on 7 January 1990. The management decided to close the tower of Pisa to the public due to the inclination of the tower was in its early stages can be worrying and predicted collapse at any time.
Intensive reconstruction was performed immediately in order to preserve historical monuments that are part of the cathedral in this city of Pisa. All people living in and around the tower were evacuated to prevent falls, the bell at the top of the tower was moved temporarily to reduce the burden of the tower. Steel cables are used to maintain the stability of the tower.
The reconstruction is focused on the reform foundation that is the main problem. Finally, after a period of intensive reconstruction, the Tower of Pisa reopened to the public on 15 December 2001. In May 2008, engineers to ensure that the conditions of the Tower of Pisa will be safe (the slope is not greater) at least 300 years.
History of the Tower of Pisa itself is quite unique. The tower was built in four stages and has two centuries. The slope is the main attraction is actually a miscalculation, because the base is too small and the tower was built on a sandy soil. Therefore, the development reached the 3rd floor of some tower towers disappear and become twisted.
After being suspended for 100 years, eventually building the Tower of Pisa is continued by adding another 4 floors, built in the direction “perpendicular” to compensate for the slope. So the Tower of Pisa is not only crooked, but also curves.
